Appellate decisions
are given greater precedential weight in future decisions than
trial court decisions. As a result, appellate representation
and advocacy can have greater importance to parties beyond those
directly involved -- to companies in related industries, to
relevant advocacy groups, to the legal and legislative communities,
and to the economy as a whole.
The judges who make the decisions on appeal are oftentimes generalists.
Our experience in appellate representation tells us that it
is imperative for the appellate litigator to be able to understand
and articulate the most complex business and legal issues in
a concise, coherent manner. Our attorneys leverage their capabilities
in specialized areas of law to approach appellate representation
and advocacy in a manner that is best suited to the client's
specific needs and the needs of that client's supporters and
to address the unique characteristics of the appellate court
process.
Our attorneys have represented parties in federal and state
appellate courts across numerous substantive practice areas.
We have briefed and argued cases before the U.S. Supreme Court.
We frequently are asked to brief and argue appeals in cases
that were handled by other lawyers at the trial or administrative
level.
