C. THOMAS HICKS, III serves of-counsel to DiMuroGinsberg with the benefit of nearly thirty years business practice experience in Northern Virginia. Mr. Hicks represents clients in all legal aspects of general business and transactions including organization, management, sale and merger of business entities, capital and debt financing, employment, executive compensation and wealth planning, among other areas. His clients have ranged from emerging technology companies and government contractors to lending institutions and real estate development firms. His work with technology companies has included capital formation with venture capital financing and other sources of capital and debt, as well as assistance with technology transfers, joint ventures and service contracts. He has advised and assisted commercial real estate clients in all aspects of their legal needs, including acquisitions, sales, leasing and land use. He has also represented lenders, builders and commercial real estate developers in loan workouts.

Tom Hicks has been a recognized leader in the Virginia Bar for many years. He served as chair of the Virginia Bar Association’s Business Law Council from 2003 to 2004 and chaired the Business Law Section of the Board of Governors of the Virginia State Bar from 1997 to 1999. He was named by his peers for inclusion in the Virginia edition of A Best Lawyers in America @ from 1995 through 2006 for his expertise in Corporate Law and Real Estate Law. He has been named one of Virginia’s “Legal Elite” in Corporate Law in Virginia Business Magazine. Mr. Hicks has also been a regular presenter of continuing legal education programs for the Virginia Law Foundation in organization and operation of business entities, business capital and debt financing and related federal and state tax matters.

As a business leader, Mr. Hicks was a co-founder and served as general counsel of the Virginia Association for Commercial Real Estate and the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance. He served on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties and as its President in 1990. He was also a Board of Directors member and general counsel of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, Among other business leadership activities, Mr. Hicks served on the boards of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce and the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of Greater Washington, DC, and was general counsel of the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. Mr. Hicks also co-chaired Virginia Governor Gilmore’s Venture Capital Roundtable from 1999 to 2001.

Mr. Hicks earned his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University in 1967 and his J.D. from the University Of Georgia School Of Law in 1970. He also received a Masters of Law (Tax) from Georgetown University Law Center in 1975.

Mr. Hicks is admitted to the Bars of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia and the State of Georgia. He is also admitted to the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Supreme Court of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals.
